Meet your Lead guide

Hello! I’m Ian. After growing up in New Jersey and graduating from Ithaca College, I moved to Moab in 2022 to stay for one season, but I fell in love with this beautiful place and never left.

I’m a Wilderness First Responder and former canyoneering guide, elementary school teacher, and on-trail educator.

Why Canyon Footprints?

Educational

To us, it’s not just about seeing this land, but understanding it. Our tours unpack the history of the people who have lived here before and still. Learn the geologic history told to us by the rocks and how every aspect of the fragile desert ecosystem works together.

Private

Don’t cram onto a bus with 20 strangers, but have a private tour with your family and friends. With a guide/client ratio of up to 1/6, you’ll get a personalized experience designed to fit your group.

Experience

Your guide will come from a background with years of outdoor educational experience. From Outward Bound to trail stewardship to early-childhood education, you can trust that your guide comes from a background in competency and professionalism, perfect for both adults and children.

Custom

It’s not our tour. it's yours. Have a specific Itinerary, time restraints, or disability? in town for a special event? We’ll craft the perfect tour for you.

Hear what people are saying

“Ian… is a knowledgeable and personable guide. He made the hiking experience feel easy (and safe) as a novice. This tour was one of my favorite activities in Moab. Would definitely recommend to a friend.”

- Kieran H.

“They know the most beautiful spots to go, and they make getting to them fun and safe. Plus they’re really into protecting the land as much as the hikers, to preserve it from damage. Can’t wait to go on another adventure!”

- Tony B.

“Ian is a passionate and knowledgable tour operator and enjoys helping others make the most of their stay here in Moab. I would recommend this company for anyone looking for a fun, informative, family friendly and private tour of the national parks.”

— Zach R.
